In last week of October, 2014, Heifer Vietnam held training on PLD, 12 Cornerstones (CS) and PSRP. The attendees are project partners from five different provinces and Heifer Vietnam field staff. The training provided advanced knowledge and practice of the 12 Cornerstones for Program Officers, Community Facilitators and project assistants of Heifer Vietnam in order to improve their training capacity to train 12 Cornerstones for their Self-Help Groups. In this training, theory of 12 Cornerstones was expanded in literal and figurative sense, getting the learners beyond of the limit of project activities. After then, they would be able to apply and practice what they’ve learned into their family, community for holistic and sustainable development.
On the first day, the participants discussed about PLD, sharing their self-improvement stories, positive and negative factors that influenced farmer life. The 12 Cornerstones were discussed during next two days. Most of the learners had already learned about the 12 CS and this training was another opportunity for them to have deeper understanding, valuable skills and experience in CS training for the farmers. Another important part of this training is practice of PSRP. PSRP is considered as an effective tool for the application of 12 CS, and creation and management of action plans.
For the learners, practice of PLD and application of 12 CS for personal development help them focus more and achieve their personal and work goals in order for personal improvement. For their families, they can apply into family activities to improve their physical and spiritual life conditions. For SHGs and communities, the 12 CS provide clear direction and instructions with specific, comprehensive and simple activities so that they are confident enough to have appropriate solutions to the problems and challenges of the groups and communities.
The training package including theory and practice is practical enough for the learners to apply into any aspect of their life and work. The purpose of the training is to build a better life for Heifer communities with the foundation of their own strengths and unity.
Another visible and positive sign during the length of the training was the attitude of the learners. They always arrived 15 minutes earlier and focused on the training content for the best absorption. They discussed, shared and worked together for experienced and knowledge.
Most of the feedbacks from the learners are their self-confidence in sharing knowledge and application with their SHGs. They were excited to their action plan as their strong commitment with Heifer Vietnam in applying well the 12 CS into the fight against poverty and hunger by taking advantage of the strength of each individual and of the community for sustainable development. “This is the third time I joined Cornerstones training. At first I thought I have already known the 12 CS very well, however, after each training, I realized that there were many things to be explored in 12 Cornerstones. After this course, I understood that the 12 CS exist in our daily activities and we can apply Cornerstones in our families, our projects and the whole community. I want to help our project members understand this.”, said Ms. Thuy, one member of project committee board in Soc Trang province.
At the closing, Heifer Vietnam was committed to its support for its partners to promote the 12 CS at SHG level. The training team is the linkage to share effective application of the communities with the others.
