In the morning of April 10, an animal distribution ceremony was organized in Co Do district, Can Tho City. The representatives from Heifer Vietnam, Can Tho department of Foreign Affairs, Department of Agriculture & Rural Development District at level of city and commune and one from CARE organization were at the event. The ceremony started with a song named Magic Dream performed by local children and a “Vong Co” song (a famous traditional folk song) named Heifer project in the village composed and performed by Mr Cong, a group leader, creating a very warm and hopeful spirit for the whole community. One hundred and fifty families of the project “Improving the capacity of disadvantaged farm households in Thanh Phu village, Co Do district, Can Tho City through VBHCD” (#22-0775-30) received the gifts - 150 heifers, revolving fund and small fund to build animal shelters and grass seedling from the project. Prior to this ceremony, the participants received revolving fund to do business for income generation, and technical and non-technical training to build animal shelters and grow grass for cow feed six months ago. This is the first matching fund project between Heifer and Can Tho. Its budget totals U.S. $150,000, 40% of which is the contribution of Can Tho City. The project opens up hundreds of chances for needy families to seize and move toward self-reliance.
Excitement is visible on faces of project members and when receiving such valuable gifts from Heifer. Walking home with thousand-to-one opportunity, they brought determination and belief which are keys to overcome their poverty and build up new future for their families and homeland.
