Phu Huu Village Is Empowered Through Passing On The Gifts

On February 15, Mr. Nguyen Van Bong woke up early this morning; he was so excited for his passing on. He was one of the first six donors to pass on their gifts to other new six families and the other five gifts will be passed on next month. Fifty original households took part in the project “Promote animal Husbandry and increase income of families based on Self Helf Groups (SHGs)” (22-0775-11-05) in Phu Huu village, Long Phu district, Soc Trang province. Around the Passing On the Gift (POG) ceremony were the villagers witnessing along with officials of the local authority attending this special event. Not only smiles showed how they were happy but the tears as well. Mrs. Kieu couldn’t hide her red eyes as she recalled her own feeling when receiving Heifer’s gift and she was happy to continue passing on the gift to help another needy fellow. Mr. Nam, an original member, said, “We received animals, trainings, the 12 Cornerstones and revolving fund. These gifts are very useful toimproveour life. Today, we are happy to pass on our gifts to new families. On behalf of original group, welcome new families to the community of Heifer. We hope that the new ones will utilize all of Heifer’s gifts, i.e., trainings, Cornerstones, and the fund to sustain themselves and pull through the poverty.”  And, Mr. Nguyen, a recipient, stated, “I am honored to receive this special gift. Heifer project supported me and the others with appropriate tools to end hunger. The spirit of POG is very interesting and practical to live and grow within the community. I am committed to nourishing this spirit for my passing on. Thanks for giving us an opportunity to lift ourselves out of poverty.” Remarking the effectiveness and the spirit of POG, Mrs. Le Thi Huy, project holder of this project, stated, “Through this project, I have seen the full vitality of this project as people succeeding in making their life sustainable and self-reliance with initial support of Heifer. Also, the project conveys the spirit of sharing and caring and humanity. Despite their poverty, SHG members are able to become a donor to assist other families having the same circumstances. I strongly believe that the project and the spirit of POG will last long in the community.”
